GUATEMALA TRIP BLOG!

Off The Top O' The Mountain(LITERALLY)

7/24/2010 8:26 PM
Just wanted to update everyone and let you know we are back off the mountain.  We made our drive from Nebaj to Antigua today and it was a long one!  There are so many things we would love to share, but one blog wouldn't be enough! We hope to share everything with all of you when we arrive back home. But for now everything is going well and with a little help from the Lord we will be climbing the Volcano Fuego tomorrow!  Please continue to pray for our students and leaders as we all process the experiences we have had this week!  While we hate to leave this amazing place, we look forward to seeing all of you on Monday!

Unexplainable Joy!

7/21/2010 9:10 AM
Lots of joy in our hearts as we have encountered the Lord and he is on the faces of little children.  We made the journey to Nebaj on for all practical purposes, a yellow school bus.  Our journey as you know has been one that, before arriving in Nebaj, had been troublesome and the travels to Nebaj wouldn't be a lot different!  We loaded the bus in Antigua and headed our around 3:00 knowing we wouldn't be there until at least 11:00,  but again our students made the most of it!  We were able to see devastation that was caused by the last hurricane here, and the results was many land slides that covered half of the road making many highways a one way event(and if you understand central american driving, you know why I call it an event!)
Our first two days in the village have been amazing!  First day was filled with nothing but rain, but again, no complaints!  Students have been amazing, using their spanish where necessary, and showing love where needed!  As we arrived the first day, we were amazed as 200+ little kids ranging from 3-12 were all lined up to greet us in song.  The most heart warming thing was when one of the leaders of the community said our presence was a prayer they had made for many years, and today it was finally being answered!
Please continue to pray for us as we pour out the Love of Jesus to these people of Pexla Grande.  It is amazing to be blessed by these people and we pray that the things we do will be a blessing to them!

Put on your flexy pants!

Day one and two
I am happy to say that we are safely in Guatmala, but days one and two of our Guatemala trip have proven to be quite testing!  Luckily we know that the Lord is in control!
Myself and three of our girls(Jordan Shaw, Lizzy Gilbert, Morgan Pollard) didn´t make it onto the plane leaving from Atlanta to Guatemala!  We were denied boarding because they had oversold the plane, and we were left in ATL to watch the rest of our group be pushed back to head on the mission trip!  As you can imagine this was quite confusing and stressful as we began a 24 hour adventure through Los Angeles in order to get to Guatemala at 6:00am this morning!
While we were on our great journey across the USA and on to Guatemala, the rest of our group was arriving in Guatemala to be greeted by Melinda and Cooper, but were not greeted however with most of our bags.  Delta has also lost half of our bags and left them in Atlanta.  Thankfully this morning we have received most of our bags so far but are still waiting to get the rest.  The rest of that day, the group was able to go shopping around the market of Antigua and get situated into the hotel here.
Please be praying for us as we embark on the 7 hour journey up to Nebaj late this afternoon and pray that we have a good couple of days settling in to the village with the people there!  We most likely will not have internet service in nebaj, but if by chance we do, we will make every effort to keep you up to date!

Thanks again for your prayers!
Harris
